Art Deco Buildings in Springs – 702 Interview May 2017
The stock of art deco buildings in Springs in Ekurhuleni have become part of an impromptu tour in the area and could be pegged as a popular tourist destination.
Azania Mosaka spoke to Jeffrey Cole, Architect at Messaris Wapenaar Cole Architects, who has encouraged locals to take a walk through the CBD.
He talks about the history of the design style, as well as some of the dilapidated buildings that should be declared preserved heritage sites.
We underrate the East Rand, we have this heritage and we don’t care for it. We don’t appreciate the love and attention that we have given to this buildings back in the day.

I have had a few enthusiast groups ask me to help them out and take them through Springs. Really I think you almost need to do a self tour. The best time to go look in Springs CBD is probably on the weekend, Saturday afternoon, Sunday early morning. Take a stroll around while it is a nit quiet and the traffic is not so bad.
